I‘m not sure what got into me, but a few years ago I had a great apartment in a converted industrial space and decided to build my own desk into the exposed brick wall. I got my hands on a pile of bricks, a handicap grab bar, an Ikea file cabinet, and a custom-cut glass top, and voila -- I made myself one very cool industrial desk. I don’t suggest building anything involving a lot of bricks without having a wheelbarrow, though -- it wasn’t fun making a million trips up three flights with armloads of bricks (and then back down again when I moved out). Maybe someday I’ll be inspired again to build more furniture.
